Statistically, most people live till an average age of 80 years. Although this number varies across cultures and nations, we cannot deny that life is still all too fleetingly short. 80 years a lifetime translates to 80 summers and 80 winters - to love, laugh, live, and make the most of our time on this earth. Far too often, when faced with our mortality, we look back at our lives and think of all the things that could have been different. Regret may sometimes be inevitable, but it is still possible to live an unlimited life with the limited time that we have. In this issue, we look at some of the ways we can do so.

I've known Shawn since our days in OCS. We've always clicked well as he has always been very personable and easy to talk to about anything. Just for some context, I've always been wary of financial products and insurance agents / relationship managers, as I've always been concerned about there being an inherent conflict of interest between what's best for the client versus the general incentive structure of such products. Furthermore, it appeared to me that having people you know too close to you handling such matters might present another kind of conflict of interest, which could potentially be detrimental to the relationship should things go awry. Over the years, we would catch up every now and then as old friends, and simultaneously, increasingly I began relying on his knowledge of the insurance industry and its products. Most important of all, he was always very honest with me, and vice-versa. I could see he genuinely cared for my well-being. During our catch-up this year (2023), I told Shawn that I wanted to leave all my healthcare policies for him to manage. He had earned my trust, I'd rather he handle it instead of someone else. At the same meeting, we had some discussions and he recommended that I get an accident plan, given the nature of my lifestyle and travel profile. As fate would have it, later that same year I got into a bad accident and broke my fibula while I was overseas in Korea. Shawn was the first person I called. He laid out the plan for me, what I should do in Korea, and even recommended specialists he trusted when I got back to Singapore (it was quite bad I had to fly back to Singapore to be hospitalized and go for surgery immediately). Due to the injury, I was also later diagnosed with DVT, which requires long-term medication for a few months. Thankfully, the plan covered everything, including post-op matters and rehabilitation. I have to say, I was in a really low place when I got in this accident, but his confidence and ability to respond to me with a plan so expediently while I was overseas was really comforting. Thanks again, Brother

Shawn is well-versed in product knowledge and is up to date with developments in the financial industry. He listens and understands clients’ needs very well. Having also served national service with him 8 years ago, I observe that he still demonstrates the same professionalism, determination and positive attitude to the tasks and situations he handles, regardless of how things change. I myself spent more time discussing my financial plans with Shawn, compared with several of my other advisers from other companies. Shawn can be counted on to provide sound and quality advice on important matters relating to financial planning.

Shawn has been a long time friend of mine and along the way he became my trusted financial advisor. In fact, I always regard him as my life saviour! Due to his drive and positive attitude, I started my financial journey with him and just six months later I got into a major accident and dodged a hefty hospital bill of almost $100k. I cannot imagine what would happen if Shawn had not approached me. Fast forward 6 years later, he has changed my life yet again. Through my experiences with insurance and claims vs seeing friends who were not as fortunate to have received the same benefits as I did, I decided to join Shawn in his journey to reach out and help more people around us. He has been a great leader and mentor, always so patient and nurturing. He lets you run your own show, be your own personality, yet always there to guide you when you need it! I've absolutely been enjoying working in Shawn's team, no ragrets!

I was never fond of paying for any insurance premium until I had a heart attack. 2020 was really a tough year physically, mentally and financially. My wife and I agreed to not renew our health insurance for this year and rely only with the our company's health benefits. We met with Shawn, gave him the news and planned on moving on. Shawn was very understanding of our situation and introduced us to some options that may work us. We were given the time and grace period to consider and think about it, while keeping our premiums active during this period of time. And then it happened. I had a heart attack and emergency surgery. We were expecting for the company's health insurance to save us from the cost. But it was very inefficient, the hospital was not even able to contact the insurance. Good thing, AIA was still there, available, reachable and ready to help. Shawn was even personally assisting us every step of the way from the day of the heart attack, surgery and through all the outpatient check-ups afterwards. We could have been bankrupt from the hospital bill alone. Not to mention the maintenance after. As a family, we are really Thankful to Shawn for his insight and consideration. For not letting go when we were about to give up with insuring our health.

Tian Chong (MDRT Financial Advisor)

I've known Shawn since 2015 from our AIA training class EPS. We both started this career about the same time and came a long way since then. Along the way in this career we face hiccup and ups and downs. Shawn has always been a brother to me, sharing his listening ears and honest advice. We share always exchange & share ideas seeking for new creation or innovation, not only on work but also about life. Every time we meet for lunch or dinner, I always see the positive vibes in him. We once joked about this, if one day we will be able to work together how awesome will that be? Long story short, we chanced upon an opportunity and it really did happened. Life has never be better having a brother like him watching my back. Like you are going for War, you need your team look out for you. Putting me at ease and able to focus on what I'm able to do. As a friend, he is loyal to his friends. As a leader he is passionate and committed. He shows empathy towards his team and gains respect from us. There is so much we can talk about this man. If you know him personally you will know what I'm talking about.

Christine (Financial Services Consultant)

I am very thankful to have Shawn as my mentor and leader. He is someone who is committed to help his consultants grow to become professional and successful in this industry by equipping us with the right knowledge. Despite having to serve his own clients, he puts in tremendous amount of time and effort to coach us individually. Being a new consultant and lacking in financial knowledge at the beginning, I did not have to fear as I was able to grow quickly under his guidance. It is assuring for me to know that I can always look to him for trusted advice to better serve my clients.
